MAKING AN IMPACT:

AmeriCorps at RCAM

Every year, a United Way AmeriCorps Volunteer provides qualified, driven, full-time community service and works to help meet critical needs in our refugee community.

MISSION OF THE NORTH SHORE AMERICORPS PROGRAM

As AmeriCorps members, we dedicate ourselves to a year of service in the United Way North Shore AmeriCorps Program to foster change through unity, with the aim to increase the graduation rate of English Language Learners. We immerse ourselves into Lynn and Salem public schools and community based organizations to provide the tools and environment for students to thrive, while being mentors and allies who bridge the gap between individuals and communities.

2017-2018 SERVICE MEMBER AT RCAM
Emilie

REFUGEE YOUTH PROGRAM VOLUNTEER

United Way North Shore AmeriCorps Program

Emilie grew up on the shoreline of Connecticut, but has recently become a resident of Lynn. She graduated from Scripps College in 2017 with a degree in linguistics. While in college, Emilie also learned some Arabic and studied abroad in Amman, Jordan for a semester. She enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling in her free time. So far, her favorite place to do all three has been at Glacier National Park in Montana. In her position at the Russian Community Organization of Massachusetts, Emilie serves to increase the capacity and to compliment the ongoing work of our already well-established youth program. She does this by assisting in the coordination of the after school program, as well as providing academic support, college application process support, mentorship, and other vital activities necessary for student success.

One of Emilie's favorite service quotes comes from Mr. Rogers: "The greatest gift you ever give is your honest self."
