Library Clean Up - Literacy For All

This year, the Youth Program is working to revitalize our youth classroom space. Part one will take place on our 2017 Youth Service Day - a celebration kicking off April Vacation, a week spent by youth and staff alike invested in service-based activities. Refugee youth, program staff, and community volunteers will be working together to sort, label, and reorganize our client library.

Spearheaded by Tiffany Walker, the RCAM AmeriCorps Service Member, this endeavor will act as her Legacy Service Project for her 2016-2017 service year. Placed through the North Shore AmeriCorps Program, she sought to accomplish a goal that would align the missions of both RCAM and AmeriCorps. As the needs of our clients constantly change, this project aims to reduce barriers to academic success, language acquisition, and cultural immersion, and provide an easily-accessible resource to promote literacy and the joy of reading in all ages at the New American Center for years to come.
